Funds received allowed the Information Technology Department to purchase a Cisco Network Switch.  This equipment is part of a larger project to upgrade existing computer systems throughout the hospital network.

We are very thankful to the Barkema Charitable Trust,” said Josh Morris, IT Leader.  “We are in the process of updating core and non-core switches and several servers. The donation from the Barkema Trust has allowed us to begin that initiative.

This project is required for employee productivity, but is necessary for patient care as well.  With two main campuses and seven outreach clinics, the computer system is vital for items such patient charting, medical record access, patient payments, and more.  It’s evident that this new IT equipment has a far reaching impact for the entire system and patient population.

The Foster and Evelyn Barkema Charitable Trust is an Iowa Non-Profit Trust that was created on August 7, 2012. Foster and Evelyn Barkema were lifelong residents of rural Alexander, Iowa, both passing away in the summer of 2013.   This Trust was organized exclusively for charitable purposes in order to make distributions to qualified tax-exempt organizations which are of a charitable, educational, literary, health or public service nature.
