Funds received went toward the purchase of a Coag Analyzer to be used in the Clarion Lab Department for venous blood INR, which monitors blood thinning medications such as Coumadin.  In addition, it has the ability to test for PTT and D-Dimers, all of which aid in determining stroke victim medications.

“The Barkema Charitable Trust allowed us to purchase a replacement machine which is the latest model in Coag Analyzers,” shared Rayne Premo, Lab Leader.  “We now have the potential for implementing additional testing and improving turnaround times of these particular screenings.  More importantly, their generous donation allows us to continue to perform critical testing that is done on a daily basis.”

The Foster and Evelyn Barkema Charitable Trust is an Iowa Non-Profit Trust that was created on August 7, 2012. Foster and Evelyn Barkema were lifelong residents of rural Alexander, Iowa, both passing away in the summer of 2013.   This Trust was organized exclusively for charitable purposes in order to make distributions to qualified tax-exempt organizations which are of a charitable, educational, literary, health or public service nature.
