Michelle Grage - Daisy Award
I was having my first orthopedic surgery at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion, IA. The pre op nurse, Michelle (Grage), came in to tell me what to expect and explained the spinal block used as well as the anesthesia. She assured me she would be with me until I was under, but would not be there through the surgery. She said she would check on me the next day before I was discharged. The following day was pretty busy with instructions from all the departments. We went to physical therapy for instructions, and when we got back to the room Michelle was there. She had been off work for some time, but waited to see me because she had said she would. She made me feel so at ease when I was getting the spinal block, and then cared enough to wait and check on me the next day even though she had to wait to see me. That kind of caring is really not found much anymore in any field. I am sorry I did not get her last name, but I truly hope you can find this nurse and award her for her caring and thoughtful way. It meant so much to me and my family.
